If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you...
I would like to welcome Prim Rose. She is a 5 year old, palomino welsh x. She is 12hh and is the newest member to our herd. We picked her up from Medicine Hatt, Alberta just yesterday. Anyway i will be blogging our journey. so let the adventures begin!
Day 1 Today I started off by slowly putting her and the other girls together. It went very well. I also was able to rub her all over and by the end of the day she was following me around. I can`t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Today was a great day! I rode storm for at least 2 hours. while riding storm i practiced my lead departures and small circles at a trot. later on i worked all three of our horses (Storm, Paris and Faith) on the ground. I did some lunging making them bend to the inside. I also did some C lunging (which is for those who don't know it is when you switch directions and it make sure that the front shoulder is out side of your circle and not drifting in) I also did a lot of desensitizing with an umbrella and with a whip making a snapping sound.
I am so sorry I have been all over the place this last weekend that's why I haven't written in a while. Anyway what I did yesterday was a lot of ground work. I did some refreshers on the ground work from last week to get myself and them back on track. I did some C lunging making them bend to the inside, yielding the hindquarters and forequarters and some desensitizing to the wipe and umbrella. After doing that with all three horses and working them when they had troubles, it was around 5:30pm when I went home. It was a lot of fun yesterday even though it was cloudy!!

Today I am practicing my basic groundwork exercises on our 3 horses. They already know the cues however it is never a bad idea to have a little refresher :) I will work on lunging with voice cues and look for them to rollback with the change of direction, showing that they respect my space. I will also do some desensitizing exercises with different objects as well as running up to them, to work on their thinking side; getting them to avoid their natural flight responses. This week my mom and I are going to Fernie for a clinic with Madison Shambaugh! We are taking all four of our horses so we could work them all. My mom is in the first three days and I'm in the last two days. In the clinic I used Moon. With Moon I learned a round pen exercise to make it so Moon would lock in with me. The exercise Madison taught me worked amazing!! The way the round pen exercise worked was I took Moon in to the round pen and took off her halter. After that I offered for her to join me and follow me and if she did that's great and if she didn't I would put pressure on her and push her around the outside of the round pen until she would give me an ear or a look that she would like to join up. Once she joins up I would walk around in a circle facing her. Once she got that down I then stood by her on her left side, looked over my left shoulder, clucked and pointed and tapped her on the butt if she didn't move. The goal is for her to find my right shoulder.
I also worked on desensitizing her with the whips in the round pen too. It's the same way with the halter except in the round pen without a halter. After working with Moon I then took Storm on a trail ride down in the field. It was so much fun and I learned a ton!! I can't wait till next years clinic!!! Today my mom and I went to cattle sorting. For those who don't know what cattle sorting is, it is where you are in teams of three and you get a number between 0 and 9. Once you get told your number you then have to go in order and push the cow through the gate. At cattle sorting I rode Faith and my mom rode Moon. It was Moons second time around cattle so my mom rode Moon. At the start my mom got Moon to follow Faith so that she could get used to following the cows. Faith did so good and Moon did amazing!! it was so much fun!! I can't wait till next time.
Today my mom and I went riding in the horse pasture. I rode Moon and my mom rode Faith. While riding Moon I worked on getting her to side pass and cross over the fronts. I worked on this for a while because it helped slow her down. She did great!! After riding Moon I then rode Storm on a trail ride around the pasture.

Today I only worked with Moon. While working with Moon I worked only on the ground getting her to go around me at a bend. Then I worked on getting her to follow me around at liberty. It was amazing!!! She is such an amazing little pony!! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!! Today we left to go to Creston for a clinic. For the clinic we took all four horses so we could work with all of them even if we weren't riding them in the clinic. The two main horses that we rode in the clinic were Faith and Paris. I rode Faith and My mom rode Paris. It was so much fun I got to see people I haven't seen in a while. Anyway during the clinic I worked on getting my slides with Faith. It went pretty good. After I rode Faith I then rode Moon. While riding Moon I worked on getting her speed control. We were in Creston for six days. I only rode in three of the six days but it was still a lot of fun. I can't wait till the next clinic!!
