Course Descriptions

Bareback Riding clinic
Bareback riding can be an awesome way to really feel like one with your horse. This clinic will cover how to get started with bareback riding and developing your balance. We will use lunge line as well as free-style riding, and cover getting really comfortable on your horse, mounting and dismounting, and riding at various speeds. A suede bareback pad is highly recommended for use in the clinic.

Clicker and Target Training clinic
This clinic will start you with understanding and applying clicker/target training to your horse training. It's a great supplement to natural horsemanship. It can motivate and focus your horse. We will also discuss when and when not to use treats in training.

Coaching Clinic for Beginning Level Horsemanship/Programs
This clinic is for any student, regardless of what horsemanship program you are studying (Parelli Level 1, Reis Freedom course, Anderson, etc.) OR if you just want to improve your own horsemanship. Our goal will be to help you with any issues or particular tasks you may be having trouble with or want to improve your skills on. We will help you understand your horse and give you techniques/knowledge that will help you be successful. We will include video taping to help develop awareness of your body language and use of cues, and prepare you for assessments if that is your goal.

Coaching Clinic for Intermediate Level Horsemanship/Programs
This clinic is for any student, regardless of what horsemanship program you are studying (Parelli Level 2+, Reis Awareness+ courses, Anderson, etc.) OR if you just want to improve your own horsemanship. Our goal will be to help you with any issues or particular tasks you may be having trouble with or want to improve your skills on. We will help you understand your horse and give you techniques/knowledge that will help you be successful. Despooking clinic
In this clinic we will cover the psychology of a spooky horse and various techniques to despook your horse in a progressive way. We will use the techniques both on the ground and riding. Fun and challenging! Our goal is for you and your horse to be safe and confident.

Developing Softness and Flexibility in Your Horse clinic
We all want soft, flexible, responsive horses. In this clinic, we will cover developing softness to your seat, leg, and hand. We will address the proper use of pressure and release, and show you exercises to do with your horse both on the ground and riding.

Double the Fun - Playing with Two Horses at Once clinic
Expand your horsemanship by playing with two (or more) horses at one time. This clinic will get you started with playing with more than one horse at a time. Guaranteed to improve your ability to focus, your peripheral awareness, and timing. We will work online and at liberty from the ground and from horseback. A fun and interesting challenge.

Dressage, Naturally - Private Lessons
If you have always wanted to learn dressage or want to improve your current dressage skills, Soraya van Asten can coach you to be successful. Her teaching approach specializes in rider position and a simpler, yet classical, approach to the mechanics of riding, and at the same time having more fun playing with your horse! She's been heavily involved in dressage for about 30 yrs -Certified Horsemaster USDF Bronze Medal Rider, has studied with top National instructors, has won National and Regional awards, fourth level dressage competitor, past President of the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society, has been a RMDS/USDF Championship show manager, and is a Level 3 Parelli student.

Games on Horseback Competition
Games on Horseback is pure fun! We will have games for every age group and experience level. Registration fees are inexpensive. We emphasis safety and consideration of the horse. There will be horsemanship, speed, thinking, and team challenges. A great way to spend the day! A listing of games will be offered online closer to event time.

Ground Driving clinic
Ground driving can be a lot of fun and very useful to prepare your horse for riding or driving. This clinic will show you how to get started, basic tasks, and more advanced tasks depending on how quickly the class progresses, and fun ideas on how to use ground driving.

Horse Behavior and Study Seminar
In this seminar we will view horse behavior to identify the behaviors and analysis their meaning. We will also apply what we learn to the student's horses. Understanding horse behavior and the nuances of it, is a key to training our horses successfully.

How to Pony A Horse clinic
We will cover what you need in place to start ponying, strategies for ponying, exercises you can do from the pony horse with the horse you are ponying. This can be a lot of fun and a way to get two of your horses exercised at one time.

Improving Your Flexibility, Balance, and Body Awareness for Better Riding Workshop
Tim Taphorn is helping people regain their connection to and awareness of their bodies, especially those with injuries. In this clinic, Tim will help students reconnect to their musculo-skeletal system enabling them to have a more flexible back (essential for good riding), regain their balance and symmetry (give balanced cues in the saddle), and isolate body parts for better control (i.e., we all need to have quiet hands for riding). This is non-horse workshop - just bring yourself, comfortable clothes, and an exercise ball if you have one. This exercise workshop is designed to help riders, but can be applied to any activities.

Knots and How to Tie Your Horse Safely clinic
We will cover hitching post design and safety, different knots to use, tie rings and other options, how to tie safely to trailers, fence panels, on trail and more, teaching your horse to stand tied, working through pull back issues, and more.

The Ups and Downs of Trotting clinic
Lots of trotting is one of the best ways to become one with your horse. This clinic will cover sitting, posting, and standing the trot. In addition, we will cover regulating trot speed, up and down transitions, and changing direction. And yes, Virginia, we will be doing lots of trotting! Gaited horses are welcomed.

Picking Up Your Horses Feet clinic
This clinic covers progressive techniques for helping your horse get good at picking up their feet, addressing handling feet issues, holding and cleaning feet, preparing for the farrier, and techniques to use during the farrier visit to help your horse really love their farrier.

Regaining Your Confidence with Horses clinic
Once you have lost your confidence with horses, it seems hard to get it back. The good news is with the proper approach, you can regain your confidence around horses. In this clinic, we will cover various strategies and how to apply them to help you rebuild your confidence.

Round Pen and Liberty clinic
This clinic will cover round penning techniques, when and when not to use round penning, how to make round penning fun, and how to take the step to liberty work in larger areas.

Stick, Neck String, and Brideless Riding clinic
